How my own journey began

I was working in Dubai for almost 20 years in the fashion industry, and at arguably the most famous fashion magazine in the world. I loved my job and threw myself at it with passion. A blend of creativity and strategy, meeting fascinating people and traveling a lot. I worked hard, and partied hard. I spent the weekends surfing, smoking cigarettes and sipping strong cocktails.

When I turned 30 I became obsessed with high intensity HIIT and CrossFit workouts, I was very rigid with my diet and I thought I was being healthy. I started a fitness blog and it blew up, getting the attention of big brands and magazines. Hundreds of people would write to me with questions I didn’t know how to answer, so I decided to get certified as a Personal Trainer.

To an outsider my life seemed good - but then I had trouble getting pregnant, and when I was finally pregnant I sadly had four miscarriages.

It hadn’t come out of nowhere. I’d been working 60 hour weeks. I’d been over-exercising, under-eating and had a long and difficult relationship with food and my body image. I was always bloated and had developed many food intolerances.
When we moved to DC in 2018 I was forced to take a hard look at my health.

I worked with a holistic gastroenterologist to heal my gut, reduce inflammation, and nourish my body. I quit smoking and drinking.
I swapped intense HIIT workouts for Pilates and walks.
Two months later, on the day we were meant to start IVF treatment, I found out I was pregnant a fifth time. I couldn’t believe it.
I discovered meditation and breathwork as a way to help with my anxiety of another miscarriage.

Then 6 months after my daughter was born, in the midst of moving to London, I found out we were pregnant again!

Eating an anti-inflammatory whole foods diet had become second nature. By the time my son was born I’d learnt a lot through my own journey but I was craving more. I got my Pilates Diploma in 2022, and was hired straight away by London’s top studio Heartcore. I fell in love with teaching, but quickly slipped back into my old habits of overworking.

I wanted to dive deeper into my studies too - and added certifications in Pre and Postnatal Pilates, Women’s Health, Perimenopause and Pilates for the Pelvic Floor. I certified to Level 2 in Lagree as well.

Teaching at a large fitness studio and talking with hundreds of clients a week, I realized that the results most of my clients wanted to get - better energy, moods, fat loss, and more muscle - would actually came from optimized Nutrition. So I became a Certified Nutritionist so I could help women holistically through the combined power of food and movement. My own health journey deeply informs my practice as a Nutritionist. Organic. No added sugar. Short ingredient lists.

As a person of color, I noticed that there aren’t a lot of us in the fitness industry. Brown Pilates teachers are few and far between, and Indian and multicultural food is rarely included in mainstream Nutrition conversations despite being pretty healthy.

So here I am today.

I want to inspire you and show you that it doesn’t have to be hard or boring to live a healthy life. I want to share delicious, healthy foods from my culture(s). And I’m still learning how to create better balance in my day-to-day life.

There are no good foods or bad foods, no matter the cuisine. Let’s get healthy together and discover exciting ways to eat and move (and rest!). I’m with you every step of the way…you’ve got this.
